I was in the marching band at the University of Connecticut, for those who haven’t read my bio page. Thankfully, I never had the opportunity to participate in the maneuver at 8-Down, but it sounds terrifying. I wish I were exaggerating in the clue… this maneuver can literally bruise someone if they’re not careful.
Thanks so much to all who’ve left a tip! It’s much appreciated, believe me.
Thanks as always to the test solvers for their input.
As always, share this link! Pass it around! New puzzle on Friday!
I played trombone in a marching band all through school from sixth grade to college and I had never heard of it until a little while ago. I’m glad I hadn’t.

What a fun puzzle. Loved learning about the trombone suicide move, but even more the long across – Somebody gets it! How many times have I been there. None of the corners fell easily, but finally the NW (A bit hasty fits the mood of the clue perfectly), then the SW, then the SE (new collar is new to me, but I’ll remember it), and finally the NE, starting with bonobo. Five stars!
